I’m George Allen, and I have been at WVRC for nearly 10 years, where I’ve worked every shift from the Morning Drive, to the Mid-Days, and even the Afternoon Drive. In addition, I am the studio technician for Roane County High School Raider Sports.
I am a graduate of Calhoun County High School (1980), and the Columbia School of Broadcasting. I spent 10 years in radio in Maryland, just south of the Washington, D.C. area. I spent a year at WSMD Star 98.3FM before moving on to WMDM/WPTX 97.7FM, where I held the top spot in my time slot for the next 9 years. I moved into the advertising sales force after 10 years, filling in on the air when needed, which included The Morning Drive, Mid-Days, Afternoon Drive, 6pm to Midnight, and even the overnight shift!! I’ve worked every shift in radio at one time or another!
I stepped away from the radio business for 12 years to pursue other opportunities, but a random call from a dear friend back home in West Virginia re-ignited the excitement to get back on the air, but only if the situation was right. This friend said, “How about coming home?”, and I said, “Now you have my interest!” After that conversation, the owner of WVRC 104.7FM, Larry Koenig, hired me to come home and DJ. I moved back home to West Virginia as fast as I could.
I will soon be celebrating my 12th year at WVRC 104.7FM! I have enjoyed my near-12 years here at the station, and I am excited about the future of the station under the new ownership of my friend, Andrew Miller. I look forward to being along for the ride for many years to come!!
What makes my day is when you all light those phone lines up so I don’t have to pick the music, because this is your station!! So, keep those calls coming and I’ll do my best to get your request on the air!!
